I never thought that I could have a pleasant experience at the dentist office until I entered Bijou for the first time. Immediately, I felt welcomed with open arms as if I was family or a long time friend. The gorgeous open lobby space is complemented with comfy and modern furniture that made me feel right at home, and Dr. Thipthamai’ staff was warm and loving, offering me a glass of water and plenty of encouragement for the procedures I was about to undertake.
Having had severe dental anxiety over many decades of dental work, I was incredibly nervous, but the level of care and love I felt within the first few minutes of entering Bijou was palpable. I was taken back to a treatment room by his friendly hygienist, where we talked about my habits, my concerns, and what he was about to do (x-rays, periodontal probing, and cleaning). She treated me like I was already his friend, and not just a patient — I honestly felt like he truly cared about me and my comfort level. She even checked in with me a few times during the initial procedures to make sure that I was okay, and continually offered me praise and encouragement throughout my entire time.
Dr. Thipthamai is truly an artist and a healer, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found his and Bijou Dental Spa. My exam was easy, and even though I had plenty of cavities to fill, he didn’t make me feel bad about myself or talk down to me like many other dentists I’ve visited. She created an easy treatment plan for me and helped me feel supported during the journey — we were doing this together.
When I came back for my series of fillings, I was prepared with a blanket and my own music, although they play calming spa music in the treatment room — much better than a random radio station like most dentist offices. Amazingly, the dentist chair at Bijou is also a massage chair, and they set me up with a warm neck pillow and a cool eye pillow, along with some glorious essential oils that helped me calm down even more. These simple touches allowed me to breathe and relax completely, and pretend like I was just at a spa — not a dental spa!
The numbing injections I received were some of the easiest of my life — Dr. Thipthamai knows lots of tricks to help the patient not feel as much pain, and he continuously checked in with me to make sure I was still numb, giving me more injections as I needed them. In creating the fillings for my teeth, I appreciated that he took the time and the artistry to make the filling feel like a tooth structure — not just a flat box. After the procedures were over, I still felt completely cared for by both the doctor and his staff. The dental assistant and the receptionist were both so happy for and proud of me for hanging in there throughout the whole process, and I felt like they honestly cared about me — so different than most of my dentist experiences of my life.
I am so happy that I found Bijou Dental Spa and Dr. Thipthamai, and I will absolutely be his patient for life!!
